Tuesday marked the release of indie rock band Interpol’s eponymous fourth studio album. Definitely check these guys out if you haven’t already. They are easily one of my favorite rock bands out there. The group formed in 1997 in NYC, emerging from the post-punk revival scene happening at the time. Read more

As with everyone else on the Sketchtunes team, I’m currently very busy with college work. I don’t have enough time to write anything too lengthy, so I figured I’d just provide a real quick review on a band that I have been meaning to write about for awhile now.
I know what you’re thinking. At first glance the name Street Sweeper Social Club is already a mouthful. But don’t let the tongue twisting name turn you away from this amazing rap/rock group. I first came across this group when I saw them in concert about a year ago in San Jose. Their stage presence is definitely a force to be reckoned with and was certainly one of the highlights of that night. Plus their crazy commander jackets and the fact they enter the stage to “The Imperial March” from Star Wars made them all the more entertaining.
Maybe it’s just the result of being immersed in college life and culture and being surrounded by people from different backgrounds and all corners of the world, but it sure seems to me like KPop is catching on, even here in the states. Even in our dance game community, there is an increasing number of charts being made from KPop songs, the most notable of which is for SNSD’s hit “Gee” done by Vegas local Bobby (aka WhiteDrMario). To further demonstrate the growing presence of KPop music and culture, at least from a local perspective, one needs to look no further than Teriyaki Time, a popular Asian diner across the street from UNLV which entertains the many university students and staff who frequent it with KPop music videos playing from flat screen TVs spread across the dining area.
I haven’t really written a blog for quite awhile now since school has started again. I am really damn swamped (not to be complaining or anything…I’m just stating how it is). Well with all these responsibilities that come with age I realize that I really had it good when I was a kid. Back in the day I would make dinosaurs out of Playdoh, and that would challenge my wits for the entire day.
